Rachel Northrup PTA and her husband, Matt Northrup took 13 kids from Maranatha High School (MHS) in Pasadena, CA to Guatemala to serve in a Compassion International sponsored village of Machaquilla. There a church partnered with Compassion International was working to build a school for the sponsored children. They were welcomed with open arms as the people in the village became part of their family. Each morning, they painted classrooms as well as the outside of one building that had previously been built by another missions group. The ladies of the church prepared lunch and dinner for their team, as well as let some of the MHS kids learn to cook the food they prepared. In the afternoons, anywhere from 100 – 150 sponsored children came to the site to play. They played all types of age-appropriate games with the children within their different age levels. They even provided piñatas for each age group. The trip was a good way for the students to be able to help those less fortunate and show them love despite a communication barrier. Rachel and Matt hope to return next summer with a new group from MHS and continue their new relationship with the people of Machaquilla.

Sue Trautman, MA, OTR/L, SWC will be teaching the Specialized Techniques for Measuring Sensory Integration in Chicago, Illinois. Sue is the Course II Coordinator and one of only 30 SIPT Instructors in the world.
